[q01] Tauri vs Electron?
Tauri when binary size matters and the app is mostly UI plus thin native bridges – a typical Tauri installer is 5-15 MB versus 80-150 MB for Electron. Electron when you need deep Node.js ecosystem access, complex IPC patterns, or a team already fluent in the Electron tooling.
[q02] How does code signing work?
macOS requires an Apple Developer ID certificate plus notarization through Apple's service on every release. Windows uses Authenticode with an EV or OV certificate from a trusted CA. Linux signing is distribution-specific. We set up the certificates, store them securely in CI, and automate signing on every release build.
[q03] Can you build for Linux AppImage, Flatpak, or Snap?
Yes. AppImage is the simplest – one portable binary. Flatpak gives you sandboxing and the GNOME software store. Snap is Ubuntu-friendly and the Snap Store. We typically ship AppImage plus one store format based on your audience.
[q04] What does it cost?
Cross-platform desktop apps typically land between $50k and $220k depending on native-integration depth and release cadence. Three-OS support adds roughly 30% over single-OS because of CI complexity, signing, and per-OS QA. We quote after discovery.
[q05] How long does a desktop project take?
Eight to sixteen weeks to first signed, shipping release. Tauri projects typically ship faster than Electron because the smaller runtime footprint means less integration work for features like auto-update and window management.
